No more rooms for fresh KNUST students

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will no longer give automatic on-campus accommodation to fresh students.

According to the university, henceforth, all students admitted to programmes of study shall be required to make their own residential arrangements with the university’s halls of residence and hostels.

A statement from the Registrar of KNUST, Mr Kobby Yebo Okrah, said the decision was in line with the university’s objective of promoting greater access to science and technology education and training for national development.

“The policy of in-out-out-out on residential accommodation for admitted students is hereby proscribed,” it said.

It asked freshmen to apply to their respective affiliated halls of residence for consideration for on-campus accommodation.

With the expected increase in admission figures in the university this academic year, the new directive could aggravate problems confronting fresh students.

Meanwhile, a number of new hostels are springing up around the KNUST campus as private people move to cash in on the increasing number of students to be admitted.
