Nkwanta SHS needs dormitories

The Nkwanta Senior High School (NKWASEC) in the Volta Region is faced with serious accommodation challenges that is affecting effective teaching and learning.

According to the school’s authorities, the dormitories in the school are not enough to accommodate the large student population of 1,595 made up of 910 boys and 685 girls, while lack of accommodation for teachers was also affecting supervision.

Only 218 of the 1,595 students have been accommodated in the school while the rest are accommodated in garages of a construction company, Kassardjian Company, which have been converted into dormitories. 

Part of the headmaster’s living quarters is also being used as a girl’s dormitory for some female students.

Speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the school, the Headmaster, Mr S.K. Kutorb, expressed his frustration over the issue, stating that the serious overcrowding in the dormitories posed a serious health hazard.
