Motivate teachers to give their best - Mamponghene

A lawyer and traditional ruler has observed that the country's education will not make the required impact on national development unless the teachers who are moulding the future manpower are paid well and the necessary incentives provided for them.

That, he stressed, was a necessary “tonic” that could enable them to perform better.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene, made the observation when the Prempeh College, victors of the 2017 National Mathematics and Science Quiz, led by the Headmaster, Mr Samuel Kwadwo Fordwour, presented the trophy to him during the Akwasidae Festival at the Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace, Asante-Mampong over the weekend.

Incidentally, the Mamponghene is an old student and Mr Fordwour is also a native of Asante-Mampong.

The Mamponghene, a former Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), noted that science and technology were formidable forces that could help transform the country and, therefore, urged schools to place much premium on the study of science.

He commended the students and more especially the teachers for their effort that had brought some honour to the school in particular and Asanteman in general.

Daasebre Bonsu, however, urged the students to work extra hard to equalise the success chalked up by the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon by winning the trophy on five occasions.

He presented GH¢1,000 as a token to the school for the effort they put in, which was received on behalf of the school by the headmaster.

Mr Fordwour thanked the Mamponghene for the hospitality accorded them and assured him of the students and the tutors’ preparedness to win the quiz again.

He commended the Mamponghene for the significant contribution he had made towards the development of his alma mater and expressed the hope that he would continue with such efforts.
