The books cover different course areas such as Networking, Network Security, CISCO Devices, and Configuration of CISCO Devices, Linux, C+ Programming, C++ Programming and Visual Basics, among others.

Mr Essiaw, who works with Microsoft Corporation, presented 116 books to give students of the department the chance to better themselves in their chosen area of study.

Great ICT talents

Presenting the books at a short ceremony, Mr Essiaw said Ghana had a good number of talents in the area of ICT, but lack of access to materials that would enhance those talents remained a major challenge.

While in the US, he said, he thought of assisting an ICT institution in Ghana, which led to the decision to support the Computer Engineering Department of the university.

He said he was amazed by the content of the department’s curriculum when he visited the school to acquaint himself with the nature of their course structure.

Student innovations

Mr Essiaw said he had been pleasantly surprised by the innovative projects undertaken by students of the department, and added that the books should be available and accessible to students so they could make good use of them.

Thoughtful gesture

The Provost of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences of the university, Professor Ebenezer Owusu, described the gesture as reflective of the goodwill of the donor.

The right linkages and networking with persons within and outside the university, he said, could produce results that would propel the department to higher levels.

Vision for department

His vision, he said, was for the department to become the propelling force that would drive the economy of the country, adding that if engineering should stagnate, the growth and development of the country would be adversely affected.

He urged members of the department to sit up and do things that would facilitate growth, pointing out that: “we need to move forward as a united front.”
