He said it was important to create the opportunity for students to have a feel of scientific tools, chemicals and biological features that were being taught in schools.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic at the Galaxy International Senior High School at Adjiringano, near Accra, Mr Karaman said the current competition on the job market required students with practicable knowledge.

Facilities

The school has a well-equipped chemistry, physics, biology and computer laboratories.

Besides, electronic boards have been mounted in all the classrooms, which allow teachers and students to write and draw with their bare hands. The writings are then saved and sent to the students via their emails.

"We are not just teaching science. We allow our students to touch the science," Mr Karaman intimated.

Methods

The school has dedicated classrooms for each of the subjects taught in the school such as physics, chemistry, business and mathematics.

Each of the classrooms has unique colour combinations to suit the subject offered.

Mr Karaman said the idea behind the creation of different classrooms and different colour combinations was to avoid boredom in the learning process.

"Our main focus is not money but to offer quality and comfortable education to the students. We try to create the best environment for our students," he said.

Achievements

The students take the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). It also has a Cambridge Programme, an international programme recognised by international universities, for pupils up to the age of 16.

Last year, the school won five Cambridge awards - The Best in Mathematics School of the Year; the Best Science School; the Best English School, and the Best Primary School, all in the primary education category, as well as the Best French School in the secondary category.

So far, the school has won seven gold, 14 silver, 26 bronze international medals and 30 honourable certificates for its excellent academic performance.

Values

Mr Karaman said guided by the different nationalities and cultures of the students, the teachers taught them the universal values of respect, fellow- feeling and ethics.

The school, which was established in 2001, has more than 350 students from more than 35 nationalities, including Ghana, United States of America, Canada, England, Turkey, China, and Nigeria.
