Absorb Adjen Kotoku SHS. Authorities appeal to government

The authorities of the Adjen Kotoku Senior High School, near Amasaman, in the Ga West Municipality have appealed to the government to fully absorb the school to help address the challenges confronting it.

The school started in December 2014 as a community day school for boys and girls, with an initial student population of about 20, which has increased to about 200  offering courses in General Arts, Visual Arts and Home Economics.

Staff

According to the school’s Acting Assistant Head teacher (Academics), Mr Kwabena Boateng, all the teachers in the school are temporary staff who have opted to come from their respective institutions to the school to teach during their free time; hence the need for the Ghana Education Service (GES) to quickly absorb it and post teachers there and provide resources for quality teaching and learning to take place at the school.

Mr Boateng made the appeal during an inspection tour of the municipality by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Samuel Atukwei Quaye; the Presiding Member, Nii Klotey Boye II, and some traditional leaders of the area on Thursday.

Response to appeal

Responding to the appeal, the MCE assured the management of the institution that his outfit would respond positively to their plight and added that discussions were underway to build other structures to upgrade the school to a boarding status.

According to Mr Quaye, the visit was for the team to access, appreciate and receive feedback on development projects being undertaken in the municipality.

Still at Adjen Kotoku, the team visited the newly constructed police station, a clinic and a fire station.  At Kwashiekuma the MCE inspected a completed nursery block for the Kwashiekuma Nursery School, which is yet to be handed over to the community.

He donated five streetlight bulbs to the community to improve on security in the area.

Mr Quaye stated: “We have moved from the school, the fire station, the clinic and now the police station; your concerns are similar. I assure you that, together with the assembly member, within the next two weeks, we will solve the problem,” he said.

A Senior Nursing Officer in charge of the Adjen Kotoku Clinic, Ms Abigail Frempomaa, said attendance at the clinic was good but appealed to the authorities to solve the challenges confronting them to help them improve on their services.
