He added: “We cannot sit unconcerned and expect government to solve all the problems in promoting reading and writing among the youth in the nation. It is our responsibility to support those whose interests led to the initiation of the foundation.”

In an interview with the Daily Graphic during the programme, the Director for the Centre for National Culture, Mr Mike Attipoe, encouraged the youth to read books provided for them in schools and public libraries.

He added that the foundation would support the Ghana Library Authority to donate more reading materials to existing libraries in the nation to encourage the youth in various districts to read and write.

Mr Attipoe noted that reading helped to influence the life of people, and to be successful in life and improve upon their skills, the youth had to read.

The President of Ghana Association of writers, Mr Kwasi Gyan-Appenteng, said reading enhanced the life of every individual and pointed out that the establishment of the foundation would help generate the interest of the youth in reading and writing and build their academic competence.
