“I had a culture shock on my maiden house inspection. The houses, dormitories, and supporting facilities such as toilets, bathrooms, and sanitary conditions are to say the least, deplorable”, she said. She added that the existing facilities in the school were in very bad state which needed immediate rehabilitation.

Ms Asiedu-Akrofi made the appeal at the 76th Speech and Prize-giving Day held over the weekend.

It was on the theme: “Building Quality Human Resource for National Development: The Impact of Sustainable Renewable Energy”.

She explained that the current state of affairs was as a result of the lack of any major expansion in all those facilities despite the increased student enrolment over the years.

Ms Asiedu-Akrofi said the school was also in dire need of additional classrooms and science laboratories and added that “this year more students have opted for General Science whereas the school has only 10 classrooms for Science Students in the first year”.

She made it known that during the 2014 West African Senior School Certificate Exams (WASSCE), 835 candidates were presented. Out of the 835 candidates, 807 representing 96.65% qualified for university.

She  expressed her appreciation to those who had assisted the school over the years, especially the 1989 year group, which sponsored the  programme and also  provided a solar system for the school in view of the current power outages faced in the country.

Mr Kwabena Ampadu Otu-Danquah, an energy expert who was the guest speaker, encouraged the school to explore other means of providing the school with electricity and not to rely on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

He called on students not to seek white collar jobs after their education but to create their own businesses based on the knowledge they have acquired in school to help contribute towards the development of the country.

Master Jehoakim Asare, a student, won the most-disciplined student and was awarded a certificate, Bible and GH¢400 cedis which would be paid into his school fees account. Other students who excelled in various fields were awarded with certificates.
