The Koene hit singer beat Mafikizolo (South Africa), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Davido (Nigeria), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Oritse Femi (Nigeria), and Teeyah (Ivory Coast) to win the award.

This is not the first time Ghana has won the award. Last year, dancehall artiste, Samini, brought the award home.

Edem, born Denning Edem Hotor thanked God and Ghanaians for their support which he said helped him emerge victorious at the event.

Although he could not make it to the event himself, a representative from his VRMG management team received the award on his behalf.

In an interview with Showbiz on Tuesday, he said he was ecstatic at winning the award, which he described as an endorsement of all the hard work his team had done throughout the year. He was particularly grateful to his fans for voting massively for him.

“Basically, I am very grateful to my fans for their enthusiasm and the way Ghanaians came together to make sure that one of their own secured victory. I could not have done it by myself and I appreciate their support,” he said.

Edem added that he hoped the award would motivate all up and coming artistes to step up their game to attain higher heights.

“Winning international awards means Ghanaian music is breaking boundaries and this should push all aspiring artistes to put in a lot of work and aim high,” he said.

The Over Again rapper also disclosed that his plaque will officially arrive in Ghana on June 16, 2015 and he intends to celebrate it with his die-hard fans.

Edem continues to reap the fruits of his hugely successful album, Books & Rhymes. The album won him Album of the Year, Afro-Pop Song of the Year and Best Music Video of the Year at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Edem informed Showbiz that he was in the process of promoting his new video, Zero to Hero, which features Akwaboah.
