How to reopen accidentally closed tabs in Safari, Chrome or Firefox browsers

We've all been there, trying to click on one of the 27 browser tabs you've got open, only to accidentally click the little 'X' rather than the tab itself, sending it to the internet graveyard.

But you don't need to sit there cursing, desperately trying to remember which website was selling that novelty Halloween outfit. Oh no, you can resurrect it from the dead.

How? Well you just need to know the trick. Not some David Copperfield or Dynamo-style magic trick, but the keyboard-based shortcut that gives accidentally closed tabs a second lease of life. So, whether you're trying to retrieve an accidentally closed window or see what your spouse has been attempting to hide (not recommended), this is how you do it on your browser of choice.

1. CHROME

Next time you accidentally close a tab in Chrome, re-open the browser and try hitting Control + Shift + T and see what happens. Magic, right?

Prefer Mac to PC? Then you're probably wondering where the chuff that mystery Control button can be found. Don't fret, there isn't one. But there is a Mac-friendly shortcut set to resurrect the browser tabs sent to an early grave. Instead of Ctrl, hit Command + Shift +T and watch in wonder as your tab makes a reappearance.

2. SAFARI

Trust Apple to be different. The Big A's standard browser doesn't play nice with the traditional Command + Shift + T shortcut. That doesn't mean there isn't a keyboard-based command to bring that closed window back to life though. Actually, if anything, Safari's method is even easier. Simply hit Command + Z after an accidental close to make a tab magically reappear.

It's not just desktop-based browsing boo-boos that can be rectified either. You can make closed smartphone tabs reappear as if by magic too. "How?" we hear you cry with mild panic. Well, while in the smartphone Safari, hit the multi-window icon in the bottom right-hand corner (it looks like two squares overlapping). Now, beneath all your tabs you should see a plus symbol. While tapping this will simply open a new tab, giving it a long press will give you a list of "Recently Closed Tabs" to resurrect.

3. FIREFOX

Still fighting the good Firefox fight? We admire your resolve, if not your browser selection. Fortunately for you, Firefox lets you reignite lost browser tab passions with a couple of clever clicks too. And you're not going to have to remember any wild new keyboard codes either.

Like Chrome, Firefox lets you bring tabs back with a tap of Control/Command + Shift + T depending on your PC or Mac preferences. Bish, bash, bosh, it's back.
