Tennis: Na-Adjrago shows class at Atta Mills tourney

Pre-tournament favourite Wisdom Na-Adjrago announced his presence at the maiden Atta Mills Memorial Tennis tournament with straight sets victory over Francis Gbolonyo.

The All Africa Games gold medallist defeated Gbolonyo 7-5, 5-4 in their clash at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday to ease into the second round of the competition.

Also cruising to the next stage were Benjamin Fumi who beat Salifu Abdul-Rahm 6-2, 6-2, and Benjamin Palm who accounted for Babalola Wale 6-2, 6-3.

In other contests, Isaac Titriku defeated Andrews Adu Appiah 6-4,6-4; Bernard Armah Ashitey beat Clement Nakwi Alisi 6-1, 7-6; Fred Egyir won 6-2,6-4 against Eric Tetteh Nartey, David Bona triumphed 6-1, 6-3 over Gabriel Maino, while Raymond Hayford lost 6-1, 6-4 to Benjamin Ababio.

The other results saw Francis Akpese beating Stephen Nortey 7-5, 6-7(8), 6-3; Charles Asomani beating George Nyarko 6-0, 6-4; Ryan Kwame Asante defeating Isaac Dapaah 6-3, 6-1 and Eugene Hammond triumphing 6-2, 6-3 over Felix Kumah.

The Atta Mills Memorial tournament is organised by the Ghana Tennis Federation in partnership with the John Evans Atta Mills Foundation in honour of the late former president. It is being played in two categories, namely professionals and amateurs.
