A Kumasi-based businessman, Maxwell Owusu,  survived an early scare from bogey opponent, Captain Brian Anati, to win the Second Donyma Steel  Complex Limited Tennis Open at the 4 Garrison Tennis Club in Kumasi.

The hard-hitting backhand player,  Owusu,  stepped up his performance when it mattered most to win 7-5 to dispose of Anati who had been stubborn from the start of the one-hour challenge.

Maxwell thus dethroned last year's winner "Opaana" who failed to defend his trophy.

It was indeed, a 100 per cent performance for Owusu, who beat every opponent who came his way  during the preliminary stages and capped it with an excellent display of tennis to overpower Kofi Nti 7-0, and Isaac Obeng 7-3 before facing off with Capt Anati in the final.

It was a similar story in the women's category where Brenda Bangdome crushed Linda Oduro 6-3 to be crowned the lady's champion.

She proved too strong for Linda from the beginning to the end in a non-stop rally with intermittent group strokes.

The Operations Manager for Donyma,  sponsors of the competition, Kwaku Appiah-Kubi, promised to pump in more money to make the annual competition even more attractive.
