Na-Adjrago in flying start

All African Games gold medalist, Wisdom Na-Adjrago on Tuesday defeated Charles Asomani 6-1, 6-1 to qualify for the second round of the on-going McDan West Africa Tennis Open Championship at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The annual championship began last Monday with Na-Adjrago as top seed in the last year’s winner George Darko who left for the United States to participate in an International Tennis Federation (ITF) pro-circuit.

Jeff Bagerbasseh, who won the McDan maiden edition of the competition, defeated Clement Nakwi Alisi 6-0, 6-3 in his opening game, while Emmanuel Nyan Plange beat George Nyarko 6-1, 6-2.

Isaac Dapaah won 7-6 , 3-6, 6-2 against Francis Akpese; Eric Tetteh Nartey beat Giovanni Adinyira 6-2, 6-0 while Francis Gbolonyo lost 6-7 (4), 6-4, 2-5 in their opening games.

 Benjamin Fumi will today play Joel Meda, Daniel Quartey locks horn with Frederick Kulibali, Ibrahim Yusif takes on against Gabriel Atteh, Togolese Bernard Alipoe clashes with Benjamin Nii Noi Ababio, Cedric Dzelu engages Benjamin Palm with Albert Nti facing Nigerian Michael Moses.

This year’s championship, opened to West Africa tennis players is being sponsored by McDan Shipping Company and supported by Rush Energy Drink and West Blue Consulting.
