Moses overpowers Na-Adjrago to win McDan Open Tennis ultimate

Nigeria's top seed, Michael Moses, last Saturday emerged the proud winner of the McDan West Africa Tennis Open after beating Ghana’s All-Africa Games gold medallist, Wisdom Na-Adjrago 7-5, 6-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

An overjoyed Moses  told the Graphic Sports that "I am very happy to win this championship despite the toughness of the challenge. I will now have to go to Nigeria and prepare for the Davies Cup".

 Moses took home $1,000  cash prize, a golden trophy, two rackets, a pair of shoes, as well as other products from the sponsors.

In the women’s competition, Sarah Adekope completed the tale of Nigerian dominance when she defeated another Ghanaian, Kate Coleman 6-1,   6-0 .

Sarah bagged $500 as cash prize, a golden trophy, two rackets and products from the sponsors.

There were also cash prizes and products for players who qualified for the second round and semi-finals in both male and female divisions.

Na-Adjrago received $600 cash prize, silver trophy, two rackets and products from the sponsors for finishing as runners-up in the men’s category while Kate took home $200 as cash prize,     

a racket and products from the sponsors.

The Chief Executive officer (CEO) of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley, the headline sponsors of the competition, said his company was determined to develop tennis at the grassroot by   organizing junior championships.

The vice-president of the GTF, Isaac Duah, thanked McDan for his immense support to the development of tennis in the country.

The McDan West Africa Tennis Open Championship is an annual competition organised under the auspices of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF).
