McDan Open finalists for Spain

All four athletes who competed in the finals of the McDan Tennis Open Championship held at the centre courts of the Accra Sports Stadium last Saturday will be touring Spain later this year for an intensive training programme.

First and second ranked George Darko and Jeff Bagerbaseh competed in the men’s singles with the latter emerging as winner with  5-7, 7-5 and 6-3.

Jeff Bagerbaseh, on winning the grand price at the open, took home a golden trophy, GH¢1000 cash prize and Babolat sportswear while runner-up, George Darko, pocketed GH ¢600 and a silver trophy.

Meanhwile, Francisca Nyarko battled Yvonne Bruce-Tagoe for the womens’ singles final in which Francisca won both sets 6-2, 6-2 to win the female cartegory.

Nyarko also won a golden medal alongside GH¢500 and Yvonne took home a silver trophy with GH¢300 cash price.

Addressing the media after the championship, the Managing Director of the McDan Shipping Company, Mr Daniel McKorley said, “I urge all of you to continue training hard for the future, especially those who lost at the championship.” 

He expressed his continuous support to the Ghana Tennis Federation.
