‘Give GTTA to Afadzinu’

Ex-national table tennis star Eric Amoah, has called on stakeholders of the sport to hand the current acting president of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Mawuko Afadzinu, the role of president on  permanent basis.

The GTTA has been without a substantive head since Reverend Richmond Quarcoo resigned last July after  three years in charge .

The former national champion who represented Ghana at three world championships and two All Africa Games told Graphic Sports that, a lot of uncertainty had been created around table tennis because the “table tennis family” was without a president and this was preventing the sport from developing.

He said,“I don’t know why Mawuko  is still acting, whoever is in charge of appointing a substantive must  do that quickly”.

“It will be difficult for sponsors to aid an association that has an acting president, they will always ask themselves what if we fund a project and he is no longer there tomorrow, what happens to our money?”, he stated.

The outspoken ping-pong star also lashed  out at the administration of the former GTTA boss, Reverend Richmond Quarcoo, who he described as “not capable of leading table tennis to the heights its supposed to attain”.

He added that, if the current acting president was given the necessary backing with a four-year mandate as president of the GTTA he would be able to improve the status of the game in Ghana.

However, Amoah appealed to the nation to support the current crop of players, including Cynthia Kwabi and Felix Lartey, as they head for the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games in August later this year.

“The World Championships will be the first international competition for most of our players and they will learn a lot from it.

“The experience gained from that event will put them in better stead for the Commonwealth games in Glasgow, Scotland”, he added.
