Ghana tennis must grow — Minister

The Minister of Youth and Sports has charged the winners of the just-ended McDan Open Tennis Tournament to work hard to raise the  image of the sport in the country. He said the performances put up by the young players during the five-day event at the Accra Stadium Tennis Courts gave strong indications that Ghana could compete favourably at the international level.
Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said,“the final of the McDan Open Tennis Tournament was my first time watching a single sporting event for more than four hours. I never regretted because Japhet Bargerbaseh and George Darko gave us continuous entertainment,” when the winners, accompanied by members of the federation, called on him last Friday.
He also encouraged other companies to emulate the example of McDan Shipping to help grow other sporting disciplines in the country.
“There are companies that are bigger than McDan Shipping and have the means to do even bigger than what McDan Shipping has done for Tennis in Ghana”.
Mr Daniel McKorley, managing director of McDan Shipping Company, pledged his continued support for tennis to ensure that Ghana tennis return to its glory days.
