This year’s edition, which will be launched on February 27 at the Media Centre of the Accra Stadium, has been spiced up, with the inclusion of a new event dubbed Executive Clash which will feature many corporate executives, including Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Marketing and Communications at Stanbic Bank and Kennedy “Kenpong” Adjepong, who both played the sport in their youth.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic yesterday, the former national champion promised that this year’s contest would be bigger than the previous edition which involved over 300 players from the 10 regions of Ghana.
“This year’s event is going to be huge; the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Nii Lante Vanderpuije will be the guest of honour and already, 50 players from Winneba and reigning champions, Swedru, have confirmed their participation”.
“It is also my hope that the new event — Executive Clash Championships — will inspire the youngsters to take ping-pong seriously because all the corporate gurus who will play that day used to play ping-pong in their youth,” he said.
Amoah also thanked ICS Ghana Limited and Alordia Promotions UK for supporting last year’s contest, while appealing for more sponsors to come on board.
