Djarbeng, Benneh excel in Accra Seniors Tennis

 

The 11th edition of the Accra Seniors Tennis Open Championship ended at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club last Saturday with former Division One League chairman, Douglas Djarbeng, and Brian Benneh winning the Men’s (60+) Doubles after defeating Nana Dadson and Prempeh Bannerman by three straight sets of 10-8, 10-6, 10-6.

In that exciting final, Djarbeng, former Cocobod General Manager, Hearts of Oak Board member  and GFA Legal Committee member, combined effectively with Benneh to dominate their opponents and secure the top prize.

 The Men’s Singles final  travelled for almost an hour between two of Ghana’s finest tennis players, George Darko and Japheth Bagerbaseh. At the end of the day, Bagerbaseh defeated Darko 10-8, 10-5, 10-6.

The Ladies Singles final  was won by Francisca Nyarko with a score of 10-7, 7-10, 12-10, 8-10, and 10-8 against Kate Coleman.

Earlier J. Doe-Adjani also defeated D. Icha in the Men’s Singles (40+) with a 10-4, 10-6, 10-3 score while Seth Mingle also won the Men’s Single (30+) with a score of 10-5, 10-5, 7-10, 10-4 against A.A. Appiah.

Lawrence Lartey and Henry Nortey met in the final of the Men Singles (50+) which Lartey won with a score of 12-10, 12-4, 10-8, while Nana Dadson with a score of 11-9, 10-7, 10-8 defeated Richard Oko Addy to win the Men single (60+), while Zinabu  Akoto beat Brigette Dzogbenuku with a score of 10-1, 10-5 for the Ladies singles.

The Men’s Doubles (side attraction) had the pair of Wisdom N. Adjaglo and F. Effah beating B. Fumi and F. Akpese in a score of 6-10, 10-8, 7-10, 10-7 and 10-9,  while F. Tagoe and S. Meng also won the mixed doubles against Tessa Gueye and Clement in a score of 8-10, 10-8, 10-8 and 10-6.

Lawrence Lartey and Maxwell Adjei, with a score of 13-11, 10-5 won the men double (40+) against Nii Botchway and Godfred Ebo with Ibrahim Bemah and Henry Nortey losing the men doubles (50+) to George Mills and Richard Oko Addy in a score of 10-3, 10-5.
