Ampadu-Kyei is new GTF vice-president

The president of the 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis Club in Kumasi, Samuel Ampadu-Kyei, has been elevated as the vice-president of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF).

Ampadu-Kyei, fondly referred to as  Kyikyiss, won the slot following the withdrawal of his sole challenger and board member of the GTF, Kwame Djangba, at an Extraordinary meeting held at the Baba Yara Stadium last Tuesday.

The meeting followed the sudden resignation of the substantive president, Justice Ernest Obimpeh. In the contest for the president’s slot, Isaac Aboagye Duah, who is a former vice- president, beat Kobby Brew, a past board member, by 11 votes to four to emerge the winner.

In his acceptance speech, Ampadu-Kyei promised to continue with the good work of his predecessors and also focus on youth development, as well as getting more competitions for players.

He also promised to get the GTF constitution amended to recognise the efforts of regions and clubs that actively contribute to the development of tennis in the country.

Kyikyiss also promised to help the new president to move the federation to a higher level to make the sport attractive once again.

Ampadu-Kyei, who is also the Ashanti Regional vice chairman of the federation and a member of the Rebranding Committee of GTF, also said his aim was to introduce the unique example of 4 Garrison club to the federation.

“Our unity and togetherness is what has brought us this far and to make it attractive to corporate Ghana since government alone cannot shoulder the entire burden,” he said.
