The stoutly-built table tennis ace from Ghana Immigration Service beat compatriot Emmanuel Commey 3-1 (10-8, 10-3, and 10-8, 11-8) in the final to lift the trophy plus an undisclosed cash presented by Dr S.A. Quaye, sponsor of the tournament.
Abrefa displayed abundant skills in the loop style game to overpower his opponent in a competition played in memory of the late table tennis fanatic and developer, D.G. Hathiramani, who many believed was the doyen of the sport in the country.
In the female division, Cecilia Baah-Danso from the Ghana Army defeated Cynthia Kwabi 3-1 (11-7, 10-8 and 10-9, 10-7) to win the female trophy and an unspecified cash prize.
Dr Quaye, an executive of Hathiramani’s estate, was impressed with the performance of the players and pledged a better competition in next year’s event.
