4 Garrison wins Afahye tennis

The 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis Club in Kumasi, led by Captain S. S. Abebe, produced a scintillating performance to win the tennis segment of this year’s Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast last Saturday.

They won 10 out of their 12 matches to scale over the Hill and Sakumono Clubs.

The host club, Hill Club, and Sakumono Club were tied on points after both clubs won four games and lost eight apiece.

In the singles, Jonathan Quartey of 4 Garrison lost 5-7 to Kojo Addoquaye of Hill Club, while Henry Osei beat Charles Tetteh 7-5.

Kwaku Amankwa of 4 Garrison lost to Emmanuel Larbi of Hill Club 3-7. Samuel Addo of 4 Garrison also beat Ismaila Lamptey of Sakumono 7-3, while Joshua Duah of 4 Garrison managed a 7-3 win over Ben Fankah.

The match of the day was between the president of 4 Garrison, Samuel Ampadu-Kyei (Kyikyiss), and Isaac Kumordze of Sakumono.

Kyikyiss, who went down 2-6, put up a spirited performance to overturn the result and won the match 7-6.

In the doubles, 4 Garrison won all the six games. Sakumono won two and lost four, while Hill Club won one and lost five.

Speaking after the tournament, Mr Ampadu-Kyei thanked the host club for the wonderful organisation of the tournament.

He was full of praise for his members for their unflinching support during the games and also congratulated them and the captain S. S. Abebe for the win.

The Chairman of Hill Club, Mr Frank Koufie expressed his appreciation to the clubs for honouring the invitation and making the tournament very interesting.
