Thrills at DE-LUXY Professional Boxing League

Solomon Martey of Seconds Out Boxing Gym took Jonathan Mensah of Palm Springs Gym to school with a fine display of ring craft to win a one-sided super-bantamweight contest on Fight Night 7 of the DE-LUXY Professional Boxing League last Saturday night at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

His richer experience and quicker reflexes was on display as he fought patiently to conserve energy and punished the more aggressive Mensah with a variety of punches which resulted in a knockdown midway into the fight to win a unanimous points decision.

On a night of knockouts, Elvis Ahorgah of Fit Square Gym had little trouble against Patrick Kudjoe of Wisdom Boxing Gym with a second round technical knockout (TKO) victory in their six-round super-middleweight clash.

Referee Erasmus Owoo stopped the bout in two minutes, 40 seconds into the round to save Kudjoe as Fit Square consolidated their lead on top of the 12-team league table with 19 points ahead of close challengers C.B.Q. Foundation.

Night of knockouts
Idrissa Amadou of C.B.Q Foundation had the easiest task on the night as he sent Richard Ashong of Akotoku Academy to bed early with a TKO victory in only 59 seconds, as Referee Ishmael Williams stepped in to rescue a defenceless Ashong in the opening round of their cruiserweight contest.

Charles Tetteh of Panix Gym was too strong for Sam Adjetey Sowah of Sonia Gym whom he stopped in the third round of their six-round super-featherweight contest.

Referee May Mensah Akakpo stopped the fight after Sowah’s corner threw in the towel to save their boxer who was no match for Tetteh whose win moved Sonia to the third position on the league log but four points off the leaders, Fit Square.

In a packed arena where Hiplife star K.K. Fosu thrilled the crowd with some of his hit songs, Ben Lamptey of Sea View Gym scored a unanimous points victory (59-55, 59-57 and 59-55) over Michael Bibi of Attoh Quarshie Gym in a lightweight clash.

Crowd favourite Michael ‘One Bullet’ Ansah dispatched his DR Congo challenger Fatiou Sarouna with ease in their six-round lightweight fight, with referee Richard Ameve stepping in to rescue Sarouna who was at the receiving end of relentless punching by his opponent in the neutral corner.

It was a night at work for super-welterweight Alidu Sulemana of Black Panthers Gym who recorded a unanimous points victory (59-57, 60-54, 59-56) over Habib Gyiwah Kehinde of The Gym who are bottom of the league log with no point in the competition.
