Stars to get busy in Kenya today- Kwadwo Asamoah ruled out

Ghanas Black Stars will begin intensive preparation this afternoon in the Kenyan resort town of Naivasha towards Sunday's AFCON 2019 qualifier against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.

This follows the expected arrival of the full component of the Stars squad this morning.

A last minute injury suffered by midfielder Kwadwo Asamaoh means that only 19 foreign-based players will join Coach Kwasi Appiah and his technical team, who left Accra for Kenya last night.

The Ghanaian playmaker reportedly developed a swollen knee after playing for Inter Milan in their 1-4 loss away to Atalanta in an Italian Serie A match and has, therefore, been ruled out of the Ethiopia game.

Coach Appiah is approaching the crucial qualifier with all seriousness as is evident in the quality of players he has invited for the game.

Ghana, with three points from two games, trail Kenya (seven points) and Ethiopia (four points) in Group F and, therefore, need a vital away win on Sunday to remain in contention for qualification to the 2019 AFCON in Cameroun.

Appiah's mandate is to win the 2019 AFCON to end Ghana's 36-year drought, but that can only be possible after they pick one of the two quaifying tickets available for the group.

A win over Ethiopia will also make good Appiah's pledge to qualify ahead of the last group match against Kenya in Kumasi on March 22, 2019.
