Sporting events will always be given precedence over funerals at stadia - NSA

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Robert Sarfo Mensah says sporting events will always be given precedence over funerals and other social activities at the various national stadia across the country.

According to him, there are specific parts of the national stadium that are hired out for funerals and other social activities but under his tenure as NSA boss sporting teams will always be given precedence with regard to the usage of the pitches and other halls.

Mr Mensah was reacting to comments made by the Director of the National Sports Authority in Ashanti Region, Joshua Mensah which suggested that the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi has been exclusively reserved for funerals and other social activities on Saturdays.

The Director of the National Sports Authority in Ashanti Region also reportedly told journalists that this directive had the backing of his boss Robert Sarfo Mensah.

However, the Director General of the NSA told the Graphic Online that his office has not issued any such a directive to the regional NSA offices.

He said: "There's no such official directive anywhere, it doesn't have my backing at all, so kindly disregard the portion which says that the Director General supports that decision...

"It is not before me officially and I don't know how I can endorse such a decision if it is not before me officially, so it is not true that it has my backing.

It is unofficial, so it should be disregarded, I learnt the Ashanti Regional Director mentioned it at a programme but it is not official and not a decision by the NSA board".
