The forward has been recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in the UEFA Champions League final last month after being brought down by Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos.

The Pharaohs will kick off their World Cup campaign against Uruguay today at noon. They will then play against Russia on June 19, before facing Saudi Arabia on June 25 in their final Group A game.

Hosts Russia now top the group after they earned a big 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia in the tournament’s opener on Thursday.

Egypt’s squad will see Al Ahly keeper Mohamed El-Shennawy start between the sticks instead of veteran keeper Essam El-Hadary, who will remain on the bench.

Starting line-up:

Goalkeeper: Mohamed El-Shennawy

Defenders: Ahmed Fathi, Ali Gabr, Ahmed Hegazi, Mohamed Abdel-Shafy

Midfielders: Mohamed Elneny, Tarek Hamed, Amr Warda, Abdallah El-Said, Mahmoud Trezeguet

Forwards: Marwan Mohsen
