Paintsil, Ashimeru return for AFCON test as Hughton names 25-man squad

Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton has named Patrick Kpozo, Majeed Ashimeru and Joseph Wollacott in his 25-man squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager, who took charge of the team last month, also included Edmund Addo of Spartak Subotica and Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer.

Coach Hughton also recalled Belgium-based Joseph Paintsil (Genk) who missed last year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana will play Angola in a double header this month as the Stars look to book a place at the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire next year.

The Stars will host their counterparts at the Baba Yara stadium on Thursday, March 23 before travelling to Luanda on March 27 for the reverse fixture.
Ghana are joint top of Group E with four points from two games following a 3-0 win over Madagascar and a 1-1 draw with Central African Republic in June last year.
