Olympics ready to play in Division One League

Embattled Accra Great Olympics will return to competitive football this weekend in the Division One League, with their coach, Godwin Attram, expected to lead his players on Sunday as they battle Agbozume Weavers in the opening week clash of Zone Three fixtures at the Zaytuna Park at Ngleshie Amanfro, near Kasoa.

Olympics and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) head to court on March 29 as the club battle, the football authorities in a case which delayed the start of the football season following two injunctions placed on both the Division One League and the Premier League.

Olympics held that the competitions must not commence without the settlement of a case in which they want the GFA to apply its rules in respect of a petition brought before it over the alleged use of unqualified players by Bechem United and Elmina Sharks.

Last week, an Accra high Court rejected Oly’s application for injunction on the Premier League but the two parties head to the Appeals Court next week in pursuit of the case.

A Director of Olympics, Fred Pappoe, confirmed to the Graphic Sports yesterday that the club would honour their match against Agbozume Weavers this weekend while pursuing their case with the FA .

“We are participating while the case is ongoing. We have always been prepared to play the league notwithstanding our case, that the FA be compelled to obey its own rules in the instant case,” he explained.

The Wonder Club finished last season’s Premier League in 14th position and were deemed relegated alongside Tema Youth and Bolga All Stars. But they are pursuing a case which they believe Bechem must be ducked points for fielding an unqualified player, which would enable Olympics trade places with Bechem who would otherwise suffer relegation.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Agbozume Weavers, MacConzy Agbavor Mensah, has told the Graphic Sports that his club are well prepared to deepen the woes of Olympics on Sunday.
