Legon Cities to replace Refs car tyres after irate fans deflated them

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee has directed Legon Cities Football Club to pay GH₵2,000 to Referee Charles Benle Bulu after supporters of the club deflated the rear tyres of a vehicle belonging to the match official after a Ghana Premier League (GPL) match.

Additionally, the GFA imposed a fine of GH₵8000 cedis on the club after it was found guilty on three counts of misconduct in their matchday one tie against Medeama SC at the El Wak Stadium.

Charges

The ruling comes after the club was last month charged for breaching Article 16(1)(c) and Article 16(2)(f) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019].

Again, the club was charged for failing to ensure the safety of match officials as officials of the club (Salifu Yaya, Kwabena Asenso Onyina) were seen verbally attacking the match officials while on their way to the dressing room and also attempted to physically attack the referees.

Lastly, the Club was charged after its supporters deflated the rear tyres of a vehicle belonging to the centre referee (Charles Benle Bulu).

Other sanctions

A player of the club, Michael Ampadu has also been handed a five-match ban in addition to the mandatory suspension he is to serve for receiving a red card in the match after he was found guilty of assaulting the referee on the field by punching his mouth.

The Disciplinary Committee which was chaired by Vice Chairperson Carla Olympio, also handed a 10-match ban to Kwabena Asenso Onyina, an official of the club after he was found guilty of acting in an unsporting and intimidating way towards match officials on the day of the match.
