KNUST to organise Chancellor’s Cup to honour Otumfuo Osei Tutu

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is expected to launch a special football tournament dubbed: ‘The Chancellor’s Cup,’ on Thursday at the Paa Joe Park, in honour of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as he marks 20 years on his enthronement as king of the Asantes.

Otumfuo, who is also the Chancellor of the university, is expected to perform the launch together with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Obiri Danso.

The Director of Sports at the KNUST, Dr Tetteh-Opai, told the Daily Graphic that the six traditional halls of the university and four other recognised halls, namely the University Hall (Katanga), Republic Hall, Unity Hall (Conti), Queen Elizabeth II, Africa Hall, Independence Hall, Chancellor’s Hostel, SRC Hostel, Ayeduase Hostel and Diaspora Halls, would participate in the six-week tournament.

As part of the launch, the KNUST male football team will play the U-20 side of Kumasi Asante Kotoko to ‘whip up’ the excitement that the tournament would generate.

The climax of the tournament has been slated for Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the Paa Joe Sports Stadium where prizes are expected to be awarded to the eventual winners of the competition.
