Keerapa Active launches campaign for sports facility

Keerapa Active, a new Ghanaian brand of sports and leisure facilities, has launched a crowdfunding campaign which is aimed at raising $50,000 domestically to advance the construction of a professional-grade sports facility at Sogakope in the Volta Region.

The project also intends to fulfill a social mission by giving the youth the chance to nurture their talents.

According to the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Keerapa Active, David Amekpor, the West African sports start-up was keen to step into new grounds by using crowdfunding to fund the building of the facility which he believes would help aspiring athletes realise their dreams as well as help organise other tournaments.

Speaking at the launch last Friday, Mr Amekpor said his outfit's decision to construct a professional-grade sporting facility with the aid of donors became necessary following athletes in the country usually practicing their skills under extremely poor conditions.

He explained that their campaign had two goals which focuses on funding the creation of the Keerapa Active high-quality sports facility and as well prove that a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGogo, as long as it is undertaken in a professional way, can help people in Africa accomplish their dreams.

“The dreams and aspirations of those in our country who want to become professional athletes or football players are dragged down by the existing reality.

"Aspiring athletes need to practice their skills in extremely poor conditions, in terms of the facilities that exist and are available today, which flies in the face of our national love for football and sports. As Ghanaians, we are almost obsessed with football, for example, but we do not support the creation of infrastructure that makes it possible to unleash the recognized potential of our football talents,” Mr Amekpor noted.

In March last year, Keerapa Active organised a 5-a-side football tournament to raise awareness and motivated the plans to have a high-quality sports and leisure facilities with the aim to organise a new tournament later this year.

The proposed $50,000 when raised is expected to also help in organising daily programs aside engaging in competitive leagues and tournaments between football schools, along with other football development programs.
