Inter Allies spoil Hearts anniversary party

Inter Allies FC spelt misery for Accra Hearts of Oak with a 2-1 victory during the 107th Hearts anniversary game at the Tema Sports Stadium yesterday.

Goals from Alex Aso and Victorien Adebayor sealed the victory for Inter Allies who were the more determined side during the game

It took just 12 minutes for Inter to break the deadlock when Aso beat goalkeeper Ernest Sowah at the near post.

The woes of the Phobians were compounded after recess when Hearts midfielder, Aminu Alhassan, was dispossessed of the ball in the midfield in the 68th minute and allowed Adebayor to latch onto the ball and race down to score his side’s second goal.

Hearts got a consolation in the 74th minute when Daniel Kodie spotted Anthony Quayson with a through ball to score.

Accra Hearts of Oak, who were returning from a 1-2 defeat to Ebusua Dwarfs in a friendly game last Sunday, were hoping to win this game to appease their fans but were sluggish from the start of the game as their defence struggled to catch up with the pace of the Inter Allies attackers.

Inter capitalised on the poor defensive play of Hearts and attacked them after the first goal, but Adebayor missed an opportunity of scoring the second goal in the 15th minute when Sowah tipped his effort over the crossbar.

However, the Phobians’ brightest moment came late in the first half when skipper Malik Akowuah’s strike missed the crossbar, only for Benjamin Afutu to also miss a fine chance after his header from Christopher Bonney’s cross went wide.

After recess Hearts became more purposeful after the introduction of Selasi Bakai who added some bite to the attack. They only came close in the 52nd minute but Fatau Mohammed failed to connect from a header.
