'Innocent' GFA staff paid for first time since Anas #12 premiere

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has confirmed the payment of the salaries of 'innocent' Ghana Football Association (GFA) staff who were not implicated in the Anas investigative documentary on corruption in Ghanaian football.

It is the first time the staff received their salaries since the June 6, 2018 premiere of the documentary produced by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The documentary captured secret video recordings of some high-profile members of the GFA including it's former President Kwesi Nyantakyi as well as Executive Committee members Nii Komiete Doku, Linear Addy, Kofi Manu and former Northern Regional FA boss Abdulai Abu Alhassan engaged in alleged acts of corruption.

Another 60 referees and match commissioners of the GFA were also caught on video allegedly taking bribes to either fix matches or facilitate dubious processes.

After the premiere of the documentary, the premises of the GFA in Accra was declared a crime scene and cordoned off.

Payment of salaries

Confirming the payment of the salaries to Graphic Online on Monday, September 3, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Elvis Adjei-Baah said the payments which were made two weeks ago was funded by the budget of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He added that the salaries of those captured on video in the documentary remain suspended till further notice.

It would be recalled that the GFA staff expressed fears about the security of their jobs and salaries following the impasse between the government and the association.
