Adomah netted after just 15 minutes when he coolly rounded Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith following a neat through ball from Jonathan Kodjia.

The claret and blues were pegged back shortly after the restart when Daryl Murphy slotted his one-on-one effort past Sam Johnstone.

But it didn't take Villa long to regain the lead – a fantastic free-kick from Hourihane found the bottom-left corner of the net just six minutes later.

Forest's best chance of an equaliser also came from a dead ball, but Sam Johnstone superbly kept Barrie McKay's shot at bay.

The victory means Villa are now unbeaten in six Championship games and just two points away from the play-off places.
