Philemon MacCarthy, the goalkeeper of Dreams FC, says he has no plans to leave the club, despite being approached with enticing offers from some local clubs.
Graphic Sports has gathered that Ghana Premier League (GPL) champions, Aduana Stars and Ashantigold Sporting Club have made moves for the player since he returned to Ghana after a one-year stint with Israeli side, Hapoel Afula, but Dreams FC have made it very clear that their number one shot-stopper is not on the transfer list.
MacCarthy, who was out with an injury for almost three months, returned to the post for Dreams in their friendly against Inter Allies at the Dawu Park last Sunday, and told the Graphic Sport he had a contract with Dreams and would not exit the club until his contract had ended.
“Yes, there has been some contacts from some clubs on their desire to sign me on, but the truth, however, is that I have a contract with Dreams and I intend to see out that contract,” MacCarthy confirmed.
“ Dreams FC have helped me to gain my first experience in my professional career in Europe and I’m grateful; I can’t just turn my back to them at the least better offer. To show my appreciation, I’m ready and willing to give of my best to ensure that the targets of the club are achieved.”
The 33-year-old goalkeeper said he was raring to go and make an impact this season, but admitted the hold up to the start of the season was putting he and his teammates through some anxious moments.
“Now everything has come to a standstill and it appears we are training for nothing. When the league is suspended, it puts pressure on our little earnings because there are no bonuses to be won and we don’t know when that is going to end.”
The former Gomoa Feyenoord and Hearts of Oak player picked up an injury during one of the team’s training sessions last December, and was absent during the GHALCA-G8 tournament which Dreams FC won as well as missing the GFA Star Times Gala held at the Nduom Stadium last month.
He was obviously happy to be back to his job as he told the Graphic Sports of his return in last Sunday’s friendly: “I miss the goal post and I am happy to be back. I had a great game and I can’t wait for our next match.”
