Louis girl sets new national record at Ashanti InterCo, OWASS claim Zone 3 title

Patience Boahemaa of St Louis Senior High School last Friday set a new national record in women’s discuss with a throw of 33.66m in Zone Three of the Ashanti Region Inter Schools and Colleges Athletics competition at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Boahemaa’s feat did not only make her the toast of the two-day event, but also helped her team to emerge champions of the zone, beating Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) to second place.

Boahemaa’s jump overtook that of Rashaka Katada of T.I. Ahmadiyya (AMASS) in 2015, and set the tone for a fierce competition for the impending Super Zonals at the same venue on March 28 and 29.

St Louis beat won the ladies overall event with 217 points while OKESS had 134 points to place second in the Zone 3 division. Adventist Girls SHS came third with 74 points while Barakese SHS amassed 52 points placing fourth.

Opoku Ware School won the male division, also beating OKESS to secure a place in the Super Zonals which would have the creme de la creme of schools and colleges athletics in the Ashanti Region, vying for honours with the likes of AMASS, Prempeh College and KASS all qualifying to compete in the Super Zonals sponsored by Beta Malt.
