Nkegbe to compete in Arizona Grand Prix

Ghana's wheelchair racing athlete, Botsyo Nkegbe, is expected to make a strong case for the country as he participates in the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Arizona, USA.

The paralympian is billed to compete in the T54 category of the 100m, 400m and the 800m events.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic from his US base, Nkegbe said he was in fine form after spending more than two weeks in the US to acclimatise with intensive training.

He said he had witnessed a remarkable improvement in his time and was convinced that after the Desert Challenge competition in Phoenix, Arizona, a ticket to the World Championship in Dubai in November and the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo would not elude him.

"I think I am ready to qualify this weekend. God-willing I am going to qualify for the World Championship in Dubai this November and also the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games," he stated.

According to him, the kind of coaching he had received during his training tour of the USA was second to none, making him confident of making the nation proud.

"Looking at my training and how my time has improved, together with instructions from my coach, I have no doubt that based on my past experience and motivation, I will be able to achieve my goal of qualifying for the big stage in Japan."

Botsyo expressed appreciation to Wire Weaving Industry, National Sports Authority, Shooting Federation, Indian Women’s Association of Ghana and some individuals who supported him to make the trip and compete in the qualifiers.
