MTN gives GH¢60,000 for SWAG Awards

MTN, Ghana has presented a package of GH¢60,000 sponsorship for the 44th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards to be held on May 11.

At a brief presentation ceremony at the MTN House at Ridge in Accra yesterday, Mr Samuel Koranteng, the Corporate Services Executive of the company, which is the headline sponsor of the SWAG Awards, said the package was the company’s commitment to support the organising body to continue to bring smiles on the faces of outstanding Ghanaian sportsmen and sportswomen.

Out of the amount, GH¢50,000 will be in cash which cheque was presented at yesterday’s ceremony, while the remaining GH¢10,000 will take care of 4.5G devices to be given to the athletes who will be honoured at the Accra International Conference Centre on the night.

Mr Koranteng said given the role sports played in the social cohesion and promotion of peace, as well as the joy and satisfaction it brought to people, MTN was more than proud to be associated with the awards, which was not just honouring its Corporate Social Responsibility, but also being there for people through sports just as its core business depicts.

While commending SWAG for its tireless efforts to sustain the awards ceremony, Mr Koranteng also encouraged members of the association to use their various platforms, both traditional and social media, to promote the event which is the only one that honours and recognises the efforts of the nation’s sporting heroes and heroines.

Mr Kwabena Yeboah, the president of SWAG, who received the cheque, expressed the association’s profound gratitude to MTN for its support over the years, admitting that, “without such significant support from MTN and the corporate world, it would be impossible to successfully organise the awards as it has become financially challenging to do so.”

He gave an assurance that the organising committee would work extra hard to ensure that the 44th edition of the Awards lives up to expectation as one of the best-organised events in the country.

He again appealed to corporate Ghana to provide support to enable SWAG to carry out its duty of annually honouring the deserving personalities and performers in sports.

The 44th edition will honour sportsmen and sportswomen who excelled in 2018. In all, 33 awards — both competitive and special — will be given out.
