The national female soccer team, the Black Queens, will take on the rest of Africa at the 11th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted in Ghana from Saturday, November 17, to December 1, 2018.

Ghana is drawn in Group A alongside Algeria, Cameroun and Mali, while eight-time winners Nigeria are in Group B, together with South Africa, Zambia and Equatorial Guinea.

Ahead of the competition, the Queens, handled by Coach Bashir Hayford and his assistant, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, embarked on a six-region tour of the country to sensitise Ghanaians to the upcoming Women’s AFCON, as well as solicit support for the tournament.

Kumasi in the Ashanti Region was the Queens first stop where they played friendly matches with the Kumasi Sports Academy and a select side from the town.

Their next stop was Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, and then Tamale in the Northern Region, Elmina in the Central Region and finally Takoradi in the Western Region.

The Black Queens also had their first international test against Zambia at the Nkoloma Stadium in Zambia on November 3 which they lost 2-3, before they travelled to Kenya for their second international friendly on November 6.

The match was played at the MISC Kasarani Stadium and ended 1-1.

The Ghanaians rounded off their preparations with another international friendly with the Bayana Bayana of South Africa at the Accra Sports Stadium which they won 1-0.
