Basketball: Marshalls wallop Elite Academy

Marshalls University College last Sunday proved a hard nut to crack as they walloped the Royalty Elite Academy team 34-20  to emerge champions of the Royal Collegiate Basketball Tournament held at the Aviation Social Centre in Accra.

Coached by Mr James Okai and captained by the skillful Anthony Adade, the Marshalls took an early lead, taking the game to their opponents who displayed a unique style but missed great opportunities and allowed their opponents to take home the coveted trophy and souvenirs from the sponsors.

Four universities competed for the title including Blue Crest College and Central University who were booted out in a two-game knockout while the winners clashed in the final.

Meanwhile, the African Youth Basketball Organisation scouting camp ended last Sunday at the same venue, with 20 Senior High School students being selected for educational scholarship opportunities in the US.

John Teye, a student of Keta Senior High School, who was selected during the camp, was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the week and was given a GH¢1,000 cash prize donated by the HFC Bank.
