AWCON 2018: Hayford drops skipper Ama Pele from starting XI

Black Queens coach Bashir Hayford has made two changes to his team for their second Group A clash against Mali in the ongoing African Women Cup of Nations.

Hayford has replaced both strikers, Samira 'King Mira' Suleman and skipper Elizabeth Addo alias Ama Pele with youngster Grace Asantewaa and striker Jane Ayiyiem for the clash.

Asantewaa and Ayiyiem perhaps earned their starting berths after injecting pace and urgency into the Queens attack in the second half of their 1-0 win against Algeria last Saturday.

Suleman was deployed slightly ahead Addo in attack on Saturday and while the former struggled to get into the game, Ama Pele frustrated the home fans by holding onto the ball when she ould have passed to a teammate.

The oldest player in the team, 29-year-old Portia Boakye has been handed the captaincy for the day.

Replacements

Asantewaa, 17, plays her club football with Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Ghana and turns 18 on December 12, 2018.

Striker Ayiyiem has proven to be a consistent goalscorer for Ghana at all levels. The Police officer currently plays for Police Ladies in the Ghana National Women's League.
