Ashgold will recapture glorious past — Dr Frimpong
The new owners of Ashgold have promised to build on the legacy of their predecessors and run the club along professional lines in order to recapture their once gloriosus days.
Speaking to Graphic Sports in an interview after a friendly match with Liberty professionals at the Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi Sunday, one of the two majority shareholders, Dr Kwaku Frimpong, emphasised their determination to turnaround the fortunes of the four-time Ghana champions into a power house, and called on all stakeholders of the club to join hands into achieving that goal.Follow @Graphicgh
He noted that per the structures and facilities that were at their disposal, Ashgold had what was required to achieve greatness and promised to provide the needed support to put the Soccer Miners on sound footing.
“Ashgold are big and professional club that needs professional touch. Professionals as we are, we plan to take it a notch higher, to begin with we are rebranding it to a level that would be much appreciated and be counted among the best.
“Every aspect of the club will receive facelift to an appreciable level they charged,” said Dr Frimpong, CEO of Champion Divine Clinic.
Last month, Dr Frimpong, once associated with Kumasi Asante Kotoko and known in football circles as Champion, and Kenneth Boakye Acheampong of Achiken Football Consult, were named as the new owners of the Obuasi-based side.
Currently, renovation work is ongoing at the Len Clay stadium as the new owners practicalise their promise to put things together at the club.
There is also a hint about revamping the playing body to put the club in a position to challenge for titles.
“We have started vigorous work here that will be extended to all other facilities, we intend to change the face of the club.
“We will just improve on the quality of the playing body. Our aim is to turn the fortunes of this great club around and playing body being the integral part of the team, it will just be marvellous.”
