Agbozume Weavers poised for Premiership
Newly promoted Division One side, Agbozume Weavers, say they will take Ghana football by storm by qualifying for the first time to the elite division.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the club, Mac Conzy Mensah Agbavor, told the Graphic Sports that the owners of the club had invested so much into the club with regards to player recruitment and financial motivation as initial steps towards achieving their Premiership qualification goal.
“For some time now, the Volta Region has no representation in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) but a rejuvenated Weavers side, which has just qualified for the Division One League, is poised to make it to the GPL next year,” he told the Graphic Sports.
Mr Agbavor, therefore, threw a challenge to the clubs in Division One Zone Three to brace themselves for a stiff competition this season.
“Teams in the Volta Region in the past used to be a force to reckon with but today we cannot stand and be counted. I want to assure the chiefs and people of our region that Agbozume Weavers are back strongly and hope to be in the Premiership next season,” he assured.

The club, formed about 41 years ago by a former sports master of St. Paul Secondary School (SPACO). Mr Ahafianyo, will play their first Division One match this season against Great Olympics.
It was Mr Ahafianyo’s dream to purchase 20 footballs and engage six players: Kosi Agbadoku, Dragon, alias Paha, Taxi Agamenyi, Victor Alipui, Zaga Samuel Olata and Christian Ametorwofia, which led to the birth of the club who traces their name to the Kente-weaving craft which is the dominant vocation of the people in the area.
The club, after their formation, played their first match against the then Blue Bird FC of the New Times Corporation and won by a lone goal.
