Player exodus won’t affect Hearts — Inusah

Accra Hearts of Oak defender, Inusah Musah, says the current player exodus which has hit the club will have no significant negative effect on their performance next season, tagging the situation as a regular phenomenon.

The Phobians are on the verge of losing about six key players, including striker Kwame Kizito, midfielder Thomas Abbey, defender Vincent Atinga, Leonard Tawiah and Fatau Mohammed, whose contract ran out at the end of the just-ended season.

However, Inusah, who returned to the team last month after a four-month injury, told the Graphic Sports yesterday that there was no cause for alarm as the situation would rather create opportunity for new talents to join the club.

"These things happen regularly so it is not an issue. Accra Hearts of Oak have been here since time immemorial and many have come and left so this is not the first time players have refused to renew their contracts."

"It will rather make way for other players to also get the opportunity to come here. My prayer is that those who are leaving will rather get better clubs to play for and become successful in their careers," he added.

Touching on his exclusion from the squad which faced Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the MTN FA Cup final in Tamale, the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League Defender of the Year said: "I could not believe that Coach Nuttall came out with the final list and my name was not included.

"In fact, I was devastated because I thought I could combine perfectly with Atinga to frustrate our opponents that day but he is the coach so I can't blame him for his decisions," said Inusah, who is currently in the Upper West regional capital, Wa, to spend some time with his sick mother.

The 24-year-old defender joined Hearts on a three-year contract which rans out in seven months time.
