A three-member Interim Management Committee has been formed to manage the affairs of the Ghana Boxing Authority(GBA)  until a new president and management board are appointed .This follows the dissolution of the Samir Captain-led executive board last week  after its mandate has long expired.

The interim board is expected to be headed by R.O. Lamptey, Secretary General of the GBA, Jonas Ahene Truly, a vice president of the outgoing GBA and boxing financier Henry Manly-Spain.

According to National Sports Council (NSC) sources, NSC has up to 90 days to organize a Congress to elect a new president and executive board for the authority.

Meanwhile four names have emerged as frontrunners for the presidential slot of the GBA. Among them is relatively young legal practioner, Peter Zwennes who once served as vice president and a member of the GBA Constitutional Review Committee. Another strong contender is Francis Declan, an Accra-based businessman and chairman of Promotions.

Other notable boxing gurus being touted are top boxing promoter and financier, Henry Manly-Spain and J.A. Annan a veteran boxing referee.

The dissolution of the GBA effectively ends the era of Samir Captan one of the pillars of Ghana boxing, who have under his sleeves over 40 years of service towards the development and promotion of the sport.

Indeed Captan had a hand in nurturing the boxing potentials of the great Azumah Nelson. His board members included vice president Ahene Truly, Francis Declan, Atta Eddie Pappoe, Dr. Quaye, J.A. Annan, Manly-Spain and Mohammed Amin Lamptey who served as the spokesman of the association.
