Take your ref into the ring against Magdaleno

The president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Peter Zwennes, has advised undefeated Ghanaian fighter, Isaac (Royal Storm) Dogboe, to take his own referee into the ring by going for a knockout or win convincingly in his WBO world title shot against holder, Jessie Gabriel Magdaleno, to avoid losing out in controversy should the bout end up being close.

Zwennes explained that it was always important to dominate fights so judges will not have the opportunity of overlooking you on their scorecards, especially at the world stage.

Though Mexican-American  Magdaleno has been named as Dogboe’s next opponent for the WBO Super Bantamweight Championship in either November or December in Las Vegas, no definite date has been set.

Dogboe was handed the chance after successfully defending his WBO International Super Bantamweight Championship with a technical knockout win over Javier Chacon last month.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Zwennes said, "Dogboe must be focused to attempt a knockout against Jesse Magdaleno or win convincingly to avoid any controversy should the fight end up close.

"It is always important to dominate world title fights if you want to win to avoid judges overlooking you on their scorecards. It has happened so many times, but once you knock your opponent out, the judges can not change the scores,so that is what I will expect Dobgoe to do.

“He definitely must take a cue from the great Azumah Nelson’s fight plan which worked to perfection during his time in the ring.”

Though fights against Latinos or South American were difficult he expects Dogboe to encounter the same challenge, Zwennes was confident that the 22-year-old would rise to the occasion.

“It is no doubt it going to be a difficult game, but  Azumah did to  Hector Cortez in 1984 for the WBC Featherweight title and Ike Quartey also beat Crisanto España for the WBA Welterweight championship in 1994, despite they being more experienced than the Ghanaians. I think Dobgoe can also achieve same. The most important is his preparation.”
