Promoter tips Bukom Banku

Boxing manager, Michael Annan, has tipped Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, to defeat Bastie Samir in their upcoming light-heavyweight encounter at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on September 30.

Mr Annan, CEO of ObjectConsult, an accountancy firm, and a proponent of a boxing school for young talented pugilists, told the Graphic Sports in an exclusive interview last Monday that Banku’s physique and powerful jabs would tell over his power-punching opponent.

“Bastie is a power puncher but Banku has great jabs and his height advantage could see him through the 12 rounds,” he predicted.

He, however, noted that a knockout would favour Bastie who has heavier punches and knockout blows.

Touching on his upcoming juvenile boxing league to complement the efforts of amateur boxing in the country, the manager of professional boxers - Robert Quaye, Aziz Quartey and Patrick Allotey - is confident that the league would revolutionise boxing in the country.

“It would start with four teams, and each team will present two boxers after the league and these eight boxers fight in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final to determine the eventual winner,” he stated.

He also disclosed that plans were advance for the construction of a boxing academy in Accra and an appropriate site is being sought for construction to begin.

The avid boxing fan made it clear that the sport must draw closer to the corporate world to attract sponsorship.

He said he had prepared a proposal for the corporate world to get involved in the upcoming bout between Bastie Samir and Braimah Kamoko.
