Isaac Dogboe’s camp wins bid to stage world title fight

Paul Dogboe, the father and trainer of undefeated boxer, Isaac Dogboe, has denied rumours that the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) is demanding a whopping $500,000 from Rising Star Africa Promotions before they could stage the interim WBO Super Bantamweight title fight between Isaac Dogboe and Caesar Juarez in Ghana.

Paul told the Graphic Sports in an interview yesterday that his outfit instead won a purse bid of $117,000 to enable them to stage the fight in Ghana. This, he said, allowed the WBO to entrust them with the hope of being able to organise the bout.

He noted that his outfit had rather budgeted for $500,000 to be able to stage the fight with WBO officials and others set to travel to Ghana for the fight.

"It is completely false for anyone to say that WBO demanded $500,000 to stage the fight against Caesar Juarez. What we did was to win a purse bid of $117,000 which enabled the WBO to entrust us with staging the fight.

"We instead budgeted for $500,000 to be able to stage a fight of this nature and not the WBO demanding the said amount," Paul explained.

Dogboe was mandated to challenge Juarez (20-5-0) for the interim WBO Super Bantamweight title due to an injury to the champion, Jesse Magdaleno.

Magdaleno, who was expected to defend his title against contender Juarez, dropped out of his fight with his medical notification indicating that he would not be available to fight until March or April next year.

The inability of Magdaleno and Juarez to square off for the world title opened up a possible bout between next available contender, Marlon Tapales, according to the WBO ranking but the Filipino was not available to fight due to troubles he had with his trainer.

However, the mantle fell on Dogboe (17-0-0) who then agreed to challenge the Mexican fighter in a dream come true bout for the young boxer.
