SWEBUS, Kumasi Girls win Road Baton Relay
Students of the Swedru Business School (SWEBUS) and the Kumasi Girls Senior High School (KUGISS) last Friday emerged winners of the boys and girls categories of the Nationwide Road Baton Relay marathon held in Accra.

The six-person relay team from SWEBUS comprising Ishmael Arthur, Eric Ohemeng Danso, William Amponsah, Seidu Salifu, Matthew Abrah Appiah and Richard Kwaitoo crossed the finish line of the 30-kilometre circuit in a time of 2 hrs, 11 mins and 42 secs after covering a distance of five kilometres each.
The teams representing the Teshie Presbyterian Senior High School (2 hours, 21 minutes and 17 seconds) and the Awudome Senior High School (2 hours, 25 minutes and 22 seconds) finished behind SWEBUS in second and third positions respectively.
In the girls race, the sextuplet of Perpetual Kosine, Benedicta An-Mwaaba, Mao Mujara, Anita Bodey, Stephanie Larbie and Victoria Arhin, representing KUGISS, pipped their compatriots from the Shama SHS (3 hours, 6 minutes and 19 seconds) and the Teshie Presec (3 hours, 14 minutes and 21 seconds) to the finish line in a time of 3 hours and 41 seconds.
The race, which started at the Baatsona Total, recorded scenes of confusion with most teams struggling to navigate the winding route and in the process failed to make successful baton changes.
However, the successful runners managed to find their way around the course from the Nungua Barrier to the Nungua-Lascala, Jokers, La General Hospital, Castle Junction before crossing the finish line behind the Accra Sports Stadium.
For their efforts, SWEBUS and KUGISS were presented with a trophy each, as well as a four-year scholarship, courtesy Blue Crest College, for the athletes to study any programme of their choice provided they meet the entry requirements.
All the competitors received certificates of participation, as well as products and souvenirs from the sponsors — Blue Crest College and Cave and Gardens, distributors of Vita Top Chocolate drink.
