Rahman wins Velocity cycling

Young cyclist, Abdul Rahman, won the first individual honour of his young career when he pipped Jacob Akwetey Adotey in a photo-finish at the third edition of the Velocity Open Road Race in Accra last Sunday.

The 23-year-old security guard, riding for the two-man Quicksteps Cycling Club, finished the 103-kilometre course in a time of 3:13.42 secs. He was presented with a medal, a glittering trophy and GH¢750 cash for finishing ahead of 52 other riders, including celebrated paracyclist, Alem Mumuni.

Rahman finished the difficult course in an intense sprint finish, with Jacob Akwetey Adotey of the Young Stars Cycling Club, who was adjudged to have finished second, taking home a cash prize of GH¢500.

The reigning national cycling champion, Emmanuel Sackey, finished third in a time of 3:17.00 behind the breakaway duo of Rahman and Adotey.

Sackey was presented with a cash prize of GH¢250, while the other cyclists in the top 10 were presented with undisclosed cash prizes.

Rahman also won the King of the Mountains competition for best climber after navigating all three hills on the course first.
